Question

help! my imac G4 will not boot

Help my G4 imac OSX 10 2.8 will not boot,I hear the startup chimes then the screen stays grey for an age,then turns black. The CD tray will not open from the key board eject key, how can I open it to try to boot from the start up DVD?

Imac G4 , ibook G4, Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Try resetting the PRAM:

Rebooting with the mouse button pressed should open the tray.

I am afraid that hasn't worked, I have also tried to reset the PMU, though I forgot to remove the power cable, as instructed in step 5 before pushing the reset button, I don't know if that is crucial.

Hi, I have done as you suggested and now have a blue screen with the log in window displayed,however the mouse and keyboard do not respond. I have tried switching USB ports without success.

Hi Mette,

Personally I suspect I have done all can - if anyone out there has some other ideas please feel free to contribute.

Otherwise you may be better off taking it in for some hardware diagnostics/repair.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help - hope it turns out to be a minor fault.
