give this a go:

open a Finder window...control+click on the Shuffle...go to Get Info...go to Name & Extension...then type the new name.

//or// if the shuffle appears on your desktop, just click twice on the "wording" of the shuffle - and type the new name.

I change the name of my USB drives and I do it the same way. it should work the same for your shuffle.

The other way is to run the latest s/w updater from Apple (which may be a good idea anyway as you bought it from eBay and possibly don't know when this was last done). This will automatically reset the Shuffle, so you will lose any songs that are on it, but itwill allow you to set your own name and then reload the songs from iTunes.

or I think you can change it from iTunes?
