Using an eMac as a display

Can I pump a mac mini through an eMac instead of buying a new display for the mac mini?

eMac, Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Not directly: the eMac has no video-in.

Indirectly, yes -- though you might not like the performance.

You can connect the two Macs via ethernet. Then activate Screen Sharing in the Sharing Preference panel on the Mini.

Then you would run a VNC client (like Chicken of the VNC) on your eMac, if it isn't running Leopard. If you have Leopard on the eMac, then it already has a Screen Sharing client.

You'll need a regular Monitor, keyboard and mouse to initially set up the Mini.

I don't have an eMac, but I used to have an original Bondi Blue iMac (the one with a CRT). I remember opening it to add more memory and I noticed that the monitor was simply connected to the motherboard with a standard external video connector. This connector was the old Mac connector used by Apple in the 1990s, but maybe they used the same technique with a VGA connector?

I would be careful if you are going to open up an eMac, especially if you haven't opened a computer before.
