imac is heating up! is this normal??

I've been on the computer for about an hour and a half and i have the temperature Widget thing.. and it says that the SMART disk temperature is 42 degrees celsius! and the ambient air is about 27... 42 seems like an awful high temp for a computer...

Hi Binkles -

Yes, the iMacs do run quite hot so 59 isn't abnormal. If you want to cool down your iMac you can install smcfancontrol [here|http://homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eidac/software/smcfancontrol2/index.html ]. I have it installed and if I'm running graphics intensive applications such as Adobe's Creative Suite, then I up the fan speeds to cool the computer down.

Don't forget the iMacs are designed to run fairly hot so your temperatures are not uncommon. If you're unsure, try a quick search of these forums to see how hot other iMacs run if that will put your mind at rest. Try [this|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7776651&#7776651] one or [this|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7905863&#7905863] one.

Hope this helps, post back and let me know how you get on.

Nothing wrong with those temps. That's normal and very close to what mine always operates at. Nothing to worry about. If needed the fans will speed up automatically to cool things down.
