I don't understand. I have a 1.42ghz eMac and i thought they only supported up to 1gb of memory?
Apple specs ALWAYS reflect only the RAM modules available at the
time the specs were written, and are not updated when newer, compatible RAM modules are developed. If the Mac's memory controller can handle more RAM, more RAM works. Mac-savvy third-party RAM vendors usually figure out what works. For example, one of my online RAM vendors shows this for the eMac 1.42G:

Some vendors like Crucial will not list any RAM combo that is not in the Apple specs, even if the specs are badly out of date. That adds to the confusion.
Basically you have to look beyond Apple to find this out, because Apple has to invest more resources in new product development than finding out interesting things about discontinued models.
A great resource for learning what Macs can handle more RAM than stated in the Apple specs is the
Mactracker database. It shows Apple's stated max RAM and if more can be accommodated for every Mac every built. It's free, and not trying to sell you anything.
The great thing about Apple Discussions is that you can look here and find out if anyone has succeeded with the "more RAM thing" in your model.
