I was having trouble and following some directions on here and I deleted the iPodDriver from the system folder>Library>extensions. I tried to reinstall iTunes 5 and iPod updater 9-6-2005 but the iPodDriver is gone. Should I reinstall my OS X to get the iPodDriver back?

In trying to get my iPod updater to work, I started following the method suggested by deleting iPodDriver.kext from the Extensions folder. Then I rebooted and ran iTunes, but the driver was not reinstalled by iTunes as some have stated it will.

So, I restored the file (I had moved it to my Desktop rather than fully deleting it). Now, when I plug in my iPod, it says the iPod Firewire Driver (part of iPodDriver.kext) cannot be loaded because it was installed incorrectly. I press OK, and then it shows a similar error window saying it can't load iPodDriver.kext.

Then, I tried using Pacifist to restore iPodDriver.kext from the iPod updater (9-6-2005) package. After a reboot, I get the same error.

Has anyone successfully restored iPodDriver.kext without any problems? If so, how'd you do it? =)

Many thanks in advance,
-Kurt

Nevermind, I got the package installed correctly. It didn't like the one from the iPod Updater package. I re-downloaded the iTunes 5 package and installed the iPodDriver with Pacifist from the iTunes package. Now I'm back to square one where the Update button in the iPod Updater (9-6-2005) is dimmed out, even though right above it, it says my software version is 2.2 (needs update). =\

So, I try updating my iPod maybe to see if would work after a day. But when I plug in my iPod a window appears saying, "The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/iPodDriver.kt/Contents/Plugins/iPodFireWireTranspor tSupport.kext" was installed imporoperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendow for an update."

I look into my hard drive and search that and it's there? Anyone no why it's doing this?

Download iTunes 5 again from Apple's website, then open that DMG. Run Pacifist (link above) and then press "Open Package". Choose the iTunes5 package from the DMG you just mounted.

This will install a working version of the iPodDriver.kext (which inherently fixes the firewire ext as well).

Reboot.

Now you should be able to see your iPod as before. To get my iPod to update to the newest iPod software version, I had to restore it to factory settings and then reload all my songs. Not the best way, but hey it worked and I'm happy now.
