Youtube videos glitchy

Hello, for some reason when I try to play a video from Youtube on Safari, the video plays very glitchy and looks like its playing 1 frame every 2 seconds. Its very annoying and I refrain from using Safari because of this. This doesn't occur when I play the video through Firefox, but I would like to shy away from using Firefox. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or help they can offer?

I've also now noticed Safari is quitting on some web pages I visit. It just freezes and then I have to Force Quit. Its happening on sites such as Facebook and Yahoo... I can't really browse Safari for more than 5 minutes without it closing on me. Please help.

If Safari crashes or hangs, there is a crash report that we need to see. You'll find it in ~/Library/Logs/Crash Reporter, named Safari.crash.log. The most recent report is always the last one in the file, so start at the bottom and work up until you find the Date/Time header, select all those lines, then copy and paste them into your reply.

Have you installed any software just before this problem started, and if so, what was it? Did you try Repair Permissions yet? What city/state are you located in?

I haven't installed any new software as of late. Last thing I believe was a routine Apple Security update. I don't know what Repair Permissions is... I just cleared my cache and reset Safar. I'm in Paramus, New Jersey.

I see several problems that could all be contributing to the YouTube problem.

1. You're still running Mac OS X 10.4.10 (it's time to upgrade using the 10.4.11 Combo Update).
2. You're still running Safari 3.03 (you need to upgrade to Safari 3.1.2 for Tiger.

Upgrade your software for the first two items, then use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, then test Safari again.

Doh! Wow thanks for your help. I tried all the steps and it seems to be running much smoother now.

I used the Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, I'm just curious what does that do?

It repairs changes in file permissions for Mac OS X programs. Over time, permissions can change as well as become "corrupted" and repairing them restores them to what they were originally.

Since you're running an older version of Flash Player 9, you should at least upgrade to the latest version of Flash 9 (Flash 10 is still so new that there's no definitive reports of whether or not it has problems or is compatible with Safari 3.1.2 in all instances). To do that, you first need to uninstall Flash 9 by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller found here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1.

Afterward, you can install the latest version of Flash 9 Player by downloading it here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=DJDZP. Then restart Safari. And if you want to avoid even more crashing, disable Java in Safari's preferences, unless you're actually browsing a site that uses Java (which isn't many at all).
