Why Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto?

Why Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto?

Have iPhoto 08 on my new Macbook and, in the process of restoring the Library, noted that I have two files -- Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto -- in the package.

20 iMac G5 (Rev A); MacBook (2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo), Mac OS X (10.5.5)

while it is strongly recommended that you do not modify the contents of the iPhoto library in any way in this case you have a database definition file from a previous version (library.iPhoto) that can be deleted - quit iPhoto, drag it to the desktop and you launch iPhoto and test it - you can trash the file as lone as iPhoto is operating fine - the database definition file is currently named library6.iPhoto

On the other hand it will not hurt to leave it there either

I hope you mean that you had problems that may have caused the library.iphoto file to be there - not that removing it caused new problems

In there rare cases that I've seen where these files go missing that a frequent cause is an errant back up application. Folks have posted on here and we've tracked it down to utilities that haven't been updated for the new Library format or OS.

No idea when/how it appeared since I hadn't examined package contents until the problems occurred and I was trying to create a new library.
