iTunes with PS3

I've marked my iTunes library for sharing, yet it doesn't show on my PS3 via my wireless home network. All the songs in MyMusic show and are playable. The only thing that shows in the iTunes folder is my podcasts. I sure would appreciate the help as it would be great to blast all my iTunes songs from my living room home theater set up. Thanks in advance. Jim

Hi guys,

Just bought PS3, and playing with sharing media with PCs and my Mac, so I thought to share the experience. As mentioned before, in PC, you can just use the Media Player 11.

For the Mac, after some googling, I found the program [MediaLink|http://www.nullriver.com/products/medialink|MediaLink] by NullRiver works like a charm. It installed as a System Preference and you don't need to type any UNIX command to configure it. It basically shares your home folders so you can browse the folders from your PS3. I did not turn on iTunes Sharing and my iTunes is not even running.

Here is the [URL|http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/guide/130/playstation-3-media-server-setu p].

The other [site|http://www.applesource.com.au/how-to/soa/How-to-Stream-media-to-a-PS3-fro m-a-Mac/0,2000451082,339287550,00.htm] I found uses the free program [MediaTomb|http://mediatomb.cc/|MediaTomb], but this requires you to type out UNIX commands.

Note that the PS3 does not play .mov or .m4a (Apple Lossless) formats, so most of the movie trailers I downloaded, or Lossless songs I imported into iTunes are not recognized by PS3. This left the PS3 showing the "There are no Tracks" message.

Hope this helps!

I recently discovered this post, downloaded the NullRiver product to my Mac, and streaming iTunes (and other media/files) to the PS3 works very well. There are a few stability issues, but nothing I can't live with (especially given how cool it is when it's working!!! - which is most of the time.)

NOW - this is the "iTunes for WINDOWS" thread and I'm STILL looking for a way to get our Windows XP box to share it's iTunes library using UPNP with the PS3 (without, of course, giving up on iTunes and going to Media Player). Just as a long-shot, I set iTunes sharing on both the Mac and PC, in case the Null River MediaLink on the Mac was clever enough to look out into Shared iTunes libraries on the Windows box. No surprise that it fails, since MediaLink is probably just pointing at the media files (NOT going through the iTunes app). So far, only iTunes is clever enough for that. Any new ideas welcome (I think I'll ask Null River if they have any ideas).
