error: "_Disk error _ Press any key to continue"

I have a similar problem that a person below me posted. Boot Camp Assistant ran fine. I installed WIN XP, it restarted automatically, I got an error: black screen, DOS-looking text:

*_Disk error*
*Press any key to continue*

I'm pressing keys - nothing happens. Force quit restart. I re-installed Windows = same error. 😟

It's weird that the new WIN partition that BC created is called "BOOTCAMP", and when I check to see what my startup disk is, I see: *Mac OS X, 10.5.5 on Macintosh HD* and a folder icon with label: *Windows on BOOTCAMP*. Note: a folder icon, not a "drive" icon. What's wrong with my installation, any ideas?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Hi All, I am trying (over and over) to load win xp sp2 - I partitioned - 32 gig for windows, hit start installation and the thing loads great but I NEVER SEE THE SCREEN THAT HAS FAT 32 on it to choose where to put win. xp - It takes 10 min to load the disk then it says DISK ERROR, HIT ANY KEY TO RESTART - of course no keys work.....I can't install the mac drivers for windows as no keys work....HELLLLLLP - PLEAZ - Eric

Hey I have the same problem, and i ran across this:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6113937&#6113937

which is similar. apparently maybe it will help to slipstream xp and retry without the file suggested by Michael Fox2?

There were a couple more options, but they didn't work for me.

I've never slipstreamed before, and I just found this thread, so maybe if i can make it work I'll post again.

SUCCESS! SUCCESS! SUCCESS!

Okay I'll start by saying that this is by no means the be all and end all solution for all problems with this issue.

However if I'm able to finally install Windows XP Pro SP2, then anyone can. I've been having issues for months.

The thread here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6113937&#6113937 does have the solution. Michael Fox2 was correct in saying that slipstreaming is the way to install XP if you are using an OEM disc.

I'll do a separate post that outlines exactly what I did so it's clearer.

I've been trying anything and everything for a while now and there is simply no answer as far as I'm concerned.
It must work for the majority of people and just not for others and for us you just can't fix it. Microsoft can't help because as far as they're concerned, there's no problem with Windows. And Apple won't help because they're either arrogant or just ignorant (I spoke on 4 separate occasions to different Apple tech support guys and none of them sounded older than 17).
I'm waiting for either the second coming or for someone to post some brilliant answer that fixes everything but I'm not holding my breath... on the answer, that is.
