Can someone help me eq out noise

Greetings,

Here's what I have to do - transfer a cassette tape (yep, it's so last century) into my computer. The only machine I have is and old boom box and the only output is the headphone jack.

I can get the audio into logic, no problem. There's a lot of low end noise which I eq out, and I've also used the noise reduction plugin.

I have a part of the tape that's all noise and no "program" shall we say. Is there a clever way to use something like match eq on that area and then apply that filter to the part where there is "program"?

I'd be delighted to hear any suggestion

Hi, I use Wave Arts' Mr. Noise. Go to http://wavearts.com/products/suites/master-restoration/ and you can download a fully functional 30-day demo.
Comparable to Izotope, in my opinion, but nicer to work with (realtime/au plugin - whereas Izotope RX is a standalone app without plug). The best algorithm in Izotope may be wonderful, but since on my Mac (see sig) it takes about 40 times realtime to process sound with it, it gets very hard to compare/tweak settings. Every ten second test takes six minutes to process. Maybe on intel Macs it will be faster, but still not realtime. Even on an eight core it still takes 45-60 seconds to process 10 seconds of sound. Precise tweaking just takes too much time, exceeding my patience limit.

regards, Erik.

Not true.
RX can work as a plug-in. In Most hosts other than LogicPro.
See this chart --> http://www.izotope.com/support/center/?mod_id=2&id=376
About the speed of RX... in my experience, the 'simple' setting is very good.
Good enough to process at near realtime speed even at 24bit, 96.0kHz on a 2.33GHz Intel.
RX is very good.

The denoiser/declicker/declipper sections of iZotope work as a realtime Plug In in Logic Pro and STP perfectly. They induce quite a bit of latency but when inserted on a Bus with PDC set to all in Logic timing is spot on.
The outstanding spectral repair function of RX is only available in the standalone version.
No, I don't have an endorsing going on with iZotope.
