Determining gapless playback freezes itunes

I added a new album to my itunes and now when I sync, itunes always freezes and it says "determining gapless playback". It happens whenever I open itunes. I cant even stop it by clicking the round X, by that point its already froze.

What should I do? I cant open itunes without it freezing now.

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.5)

I have this EXACT same problem! I've repaired all discs, repaired all permissions, uninstalled itunes, erased my music library from my mac, and then reinstalled and tried to add back my library from an external hard drive, and the problem still persists. From what I've gathered from other posts, it has something to do with the genius side bar (?). Let me know if you learn anything...

Exact same problem here - I got completely frozen - have to hit the power button to start over. yes, I can hit the x quickly on the "determining gapless playback info" - but it's quick and the user is not going to do that everytime. I just imported a bunch of music - 1000's of songs - so hunting for a particular offending mp3 is impractical. C'mon Apple? Just upgraded to 8.1.1. What is the dealio?

Help?

I'm in the same boat guys. It just started happening this week. I first noticed it when I was syncing my iPhone (coincidence?) Like some of you it seems to happening when downloading album artwork are when managing "gapless payback." I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes, deleted my iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml file - a BIG decision when you have 150GB of music and associated playlists! - tried rebuilding a new iTunes and iTunes library and it has started happening again with just 5GB of music imported. My library is installed on an external Firewire drive and I was starting to think it was the drive failing - are any of you storing externally? Has anyone logged a call with Apple?

Will let you know if I find a solution.
