I purchased songs from iTMS today. But when I transfered them onto my iPod, it tells me my iPod Software is too old. My iPod software is already up-to-date. (version 3.1) And I use iTunes 6.0.1
Can somebody help me, please?
I'm having the same problem... bumping up issue to try and get a response. I've applied the latest updates (iPod Updater 10.12.2005 and iTunes updated to 6.0.1) to my stuff. My Mac is running OS X 10.3.9.
I have a 20 GB touch wheel/dock connector model, and I've never had problems with purchased music until now. Any ideas?
Same thing happened to me. This has been going on since itunes 5.1. I am fed up with apple. I have used their products and have had great results until now. Maybe we all have to buy a new ipod so it will work. I have done the updater and installed 6.0. and it still says my ipod software is too old. What is the deal. It seems like a problem that cannot be fixed. I paid for my music and now it wont transfer to my ipod. HELP!!
Hi, has anyone had any word why the installer wont work? I am on an old touch wheel I-pod on version 2.2 updater and when trying to install the last updater version just keep getting the message -'the updater does not have a firware image' HELP!!
I just purchased an audiobook from Itunes and it will not transfer onto the ipod!!! I get the same message that ipod software is too old even though i have the latest update. I also tried the Yamipod software and it will not let me transfer the audiobook on to the ipod either. I thought the idea with itunes is to put the purchased selections on the ipod. If they do not figure out how to fix this problem I will certainly not buy anything else from itunes!!
Does anyone have a fix??????
I have the same problem, and it JUST started. I updated iTunes to v. 5.01.4 a while ago, but had my iPod on manual update. I was getting fed up with not having all my songs on my iPod, so I changed it back to automatic update, and now it says my iPod software is too old! (It probably is, but it won't load the newer versions). I don't have the money to buy a new iPod. I splurged to get this one, and it's no longer under warranty.
ALSO having this problem when I upgraded to the new version if iTunes, and I want to know how to fix it. It's taking tons of songs off my iPod that were on it before, not even just the new ones I've added. Someone please let us know what is going on!!!
I just spent my morning trying to overcome the problems described above: 1)after loading iTunes 6 on my 10.3.9 OS , none of my itunes "purchased" songs would appear on my 20GB wheel and button ipod and in iTunes get the error message: ipod software too old; so then loaded new ipod software only to get "firmware has no image" message, a dead end when trying to update.
Solution: I loaded OS X Tiger; and still got message that ipod software was too old but then was not met with "firmware..." message but actually able to update the ipod software. Now it is working properly. Luckily, I happened to have Tiger at my business that had a license left to put on my home computer and make this happen; if I had to spend the $100 to update to tiger i would not be so happy. Hope this is helpful and Apple should not leave behind those of us that bought first generation ipods.
Basically I don't know why this worked but I did the iPod updater in my Applications folder and it told me to restore my iPod software which wiped my iPod to nada. I then unplugged it and restarted, and plugged it back in, and the computer recognized it as a new iPod and all my songs transferred over and I'm not getting the 'old software' thing anymore. That being with newest iTunes 6.0 or 6.1 (whatever one), and 3G iPod.
I'm in the process of restoring right now as I have had the problem with the "software too old" message. In my case there was at least 1 mp3 that it refused to transfer as well. If you hang around I'll let you know what happens ..........................................................
............... I now can play all my music on my iPod that was not getting transferred before! Cool, it works!
Same problems as above, and reading through this discussion board I realised that I needed to restore my ipod to factory settings, but in the updater it won't let me update or restore. This has been the case for a month or so! Any ideas on how I can get my ipod to restore?
I'm receiving the same message despite the fact that everything is upo to date. Basically, it has wiped out all of those songs (500+) purchased through the iTunes Music Store.
OK after a great deal of frustration and choice words this is what I did and it worked. I wiped my ipod clean - reset to factory settings, took it out of the dock, deleted everything and anything on my harddrive with iPod in it. Went to Apple and download the iPod updater and followed the directions - not sure why but it worked. Good luck!
Okay, like everyone else, I was getting that same message about my iPod having the old software. My question is if you reset to factory setting and wipeout everything on your hard drive having to do with iPod, what happened to all the songs in your library AND the ones you bought through the Music Store?
