Front row not responding to IR remote

Hi,
I use my Mac mini as a media center and so far Front Row was working perfect. However, recently it stopped responding to the Apple remote.
It works OK with iTunes.
I tried to launch Front Row from the keyboard and it work perfect, it just do not respond to the remote. I have tried two other remotes and the same happens, no response. All the remotes work perfect with my iMac and Macbook, just Front Row on the Mini doesn't.
I wonder is there's any setting hidden somewhere which has disabled Front Row from working with the Apple remote??
Any ideas???
Thanks.

It works OK with iTunes.

Just to be clear, your Apple remote does work okay with iTunes? There's no setting I can think of that would prevent only Front Row from working with the Apple remote. There is a setting in the Security System Preferences to disable the IR receiver. But that would stop the remote from working with both iTunes and Front Row.

If you use the Accounts System Preferences to create a new user, log out and then log in as the new user, does the Apple remote work in Front Row for the new user?

Hi Doug,
thanks for the advise.
Front row still doesn't lauch from the remote but it responds to it once I launch it from the keyboard. It only works once, if I restart the computer it won't work again in addition of not having any sound out neither in analog via mini jack nor digital modes via optical cable.
Also the computer behaves extrange to the remote... pressing forward or backward buttons it switches applications, and pressing play button it opens the last closed window.
Something wrong with the way it takes the remote commands.
Thanks

I couldn't even find prefs for Front Row or remote .... did you try going to sytem prefs->security ? toggle? Re-PAIR ?
The last is what fixed my

Problem. {No sane reason it should n but it did.}
shrug
Further, it sounds an awful lot like you have some Mouse or USB util running which is interpreting remote commands AS IF they were KBD Commands, doesn't it ?

pressing forward or backward buttons it switches applications, and pressing >play button it opens the last closed window.

I'd check that and remove /turn any off: incl kbd loggers, Macro utils, etc etc..- in fact, anything not *'bog standard Apple'* {Application enhancers', Haxies and other junk). Make sure you check all your sys prefs Panes AND Startup items - Otherwise, with all the problems you are having, I think I'd be backing up - the keyboard-like behaviour AND the sound problems worry me. (I Use CC Cloner FWIW -free and wonderful! 🙂 ) and reinstalling/updating OS X (You HAVE Repaired permissions, right ?).

Best of luck.

Great! You're right, that means the problem is specific to your user and your settings and/or preferences. You don't have to worry about re-installing Mac OS X. The steps for troubleshooting this may take a little while. I would suggest you drag your user's preferences folder to the Desktop, log out and log back in to see if this solved the trouble. You can find your user's preferences folder in this path:

<Macintosh HD>/Users/<YourUsersShortName>/Library/Preferences/

Just drag the whole "Preferences" folder to the Desktop, and log out. When you log back in, see if the remote doesn't function as it should. This step will not remove any songs in your iTunes library, pictures in the iPhoto library, or Safari bookmarks. But, things like your Desktop picture and items in the Dock will return to the default settings. Mac OS X will automatically make a new "Preferences" folder in the original location. Hopefully, the remote will return to its regular settings. If so, you have two choices:

1. Continue and re-set all your preferences manually and delete the old "Preferences" folder from the Desktop.

2. Drag one or two preference files from the old "Preferences" folder on the Desktop to the new "Preferences" folder in your user's Library folder. Log out and log back in to see if things are still okay. You may be able to determine exactly which file was causing the trouble and return all your settings.

Usually, I'd recommend option 1. It shouldn't take you too long to reset all your preferences on a case-by-case basis.

However, if removing your user's Preferences folder doesn't resolve the problem, let us know. We may have to determine which user-specific folder was causing the trouble.
