Diagnostic Test for Time Capsule?

I helped a friend purchase a MacBook Pro and a Time Capsule. I set up the MacBook Pro and was able to access Time Capsule wirelessly for Time Machine Backups without much problem.

However, when my friend took the computer and TC to where she lives and tried to get it to work with the Comcast Cable Internet, she is having problems. First Comcast said you could not use Time Capsule as a wireless router. Now they say there is a problem with Time Capsule.

While I am sure the TC is fine, I never did check the Internet WAN Port. Is there a diagnostic test my friend could run to see if the ports work.

I really think the issue is Comcast in getting their help to get TC to recognize their cable modem. Thanks in advance for the help!

John,

She may need to do this...

*Reboot ISPs’ Modem & Time Capsule*
Make sure that any time you disconnect and reattach the TC (or any wireless router) to your ISPs modem, that you cycle the modem's power off and on. Sometimes it doesn't forward the IP address assigned by your ISP unless it is rebooted.

If you are using the Time Capsule as your only router then power down your ISPs modem.
Unplug the TC from the wall outlet.
Wait 10-15 seconds.
Next turn your modem back on first. Let it initialize and acquire an IP address (about 30-60 seconds).
Re-plug in the TC again.
After it has restarted (30-60 seconds), does it show up in Airport Utilities?
If not try "Rescan" from the File Menu.

Let us know if this helps.

Cheers!
