Sony Cybershot DSC-H10 MacBook not seeing with USB?

I just got this new camera. I had a Cybershot from about 5 yrs ago and never had a problem.
When I hook the H10 through USB nothing comes up on desktop or anywhere. iPhoto doesn't open either. No folder mounts (if that's the correct terminology...) I don't know what else to try. Help! My MacBook is also brand new.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

If you connect it and turn the camera on it should connect

On my H5 while it is connected the display shows USB mode and if you press menu you get a setting menu for USB - be sure it is set to Auto - or try Mass storage mode

You may want to get a USB card reader and use it - that is considered by many to be a better way to operate anyway - and in either case it is best not to have iPhoto delete your photos but to use the camera to format the card after the photos are seen safely in the iPhoto library

That would indicate either a problem with the camera (can you try it with another computer) or your connection (the USB cable or the USB port on your computer)

You can check in the system profiler to see if anything is showing up on the USB bus

As to card readers, any one that supports your memory card (Memory Stick Pro Duo I assume) will work - I bought mine at Radio Shack for $10.00 - I've seen them from that to $50.00 at Best Buy

Sony Shows up in the System Profiler under USB. It does the same on my husband's older MacBook.
Does that mean there's something wrong with the camera??? How do I know if this camera is compatible? I would assume it is... Would a USB card reader definitely work?
If there's something wrong with camera I need to let them know right away because I think I'm at 21 days since purchase for return policy... Thanks

If the camera will not work with either your computer or your husband's I would talk to SONY - it sounds like either a camera problem or a setting that need to be changed somewhere

I've use several SONY cameras with iPhoto with no problem - my current one is the H5 so something may have changed with the H10 - SONY is a good source
