Can't restore unknown error 1010

Iphone needs repair.
After trying to turn on/off, uninstalling itunes and all supporting programs, reinstalling and so forth error unknown 1010 appears in itunes. Tried on a different computer error 2020 appeared.

Is this it after just laying on a table did it manage to have a fatal hardware failure?

Thankful for any ideas of how to resolve the problem.

Have tried the first two options the third isn't giving me much more to do...

1.

Turn iPhone off and turn it on again to see if that clears the message from the screen.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider to turn OFF the iPhone. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears to turn the device back ON.
2.

If the message still appears, charge iPhone for at least 30 minutes and then turn iPhone off and back on again. For additional information about charging iPhone, see "iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery."
3. If the issue is still not resolved, then this error message indicates that the iPhone has detected a hardware issue and a repair is required.

If it says it needs repair then chances are it needs repair. You can look up DFU on the internet and you might get lucky or attempt restore from another computer.

Check the dock connector on the bottom and make sure no hair or other debris is in it and same for headphone jack on the top.

Make sure anything you have plugged the phone into is "made for iphone" and that your case doesn't have any magnets.

Hi all,

I am having the same problem as you described here. I also have an Iphone 3G, I bought it last week. I didn't jailbreak it, I just used it normally, and suddenly it couldnt make calls or connect to the WIFI. so, I switched it off and on, and I had a message that the iphone needs repair..
I tried to restore it, but I am also getting this annoying message 1010. I tried like 10 times, from 2 different Pcs and I also unistalled the Itunes..

I looked into the Update logs, and as I understand there is a problem with the Apple baseband.. The Itunes tries to Hw reset it, and after that it pings it with no answer...
If anyone has any idea how to solve it without getting to the Apple Store it would be great!! I bought it in Italy, but I'm now abroad and here there isn't any support for the Iphone, so I need to wait at least two weeks when I will be there again!
Thanks!!!!!
Ghila

Same for me!
After some "need for repair" messages and "1604 error", it's stuck in DFU mode, and every time I try to restore it, error 1010 appears...
I got in contact with Apple support: "hmmm... it's quite a new error, I don't know it, I should get some help from our engineers and call you back"
I feel like I will wait one week for her answer, and then wait another week (or two!) for my iphone to be repaired...
And I thought that apple support was one of the most efficient...............
