Hi and welcome to Discussions,

Keep in mind that manufacturers quote the capacity of a writable DVD disc in decimal (base 10) rather than binary (base 2) notation so a 4.7 GB disc stores 4.7 billion bytes (4:700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1000 = 4,700,000 KB ÷ 1000 = 4,700 MB ÷ 1000 = 4.7 GB) .
Expressed in binary notation (as is typical with CD-R, CD-RW and most operating systems) the same disc has a capacity of roughly 4.38 GB (4:700,000,000 bytes ÷ 1024 = 4,589,844 KB ÷ 1024 = 4,482.27 MB ÷ 1024 = 4.38 GB) .

Your file is 4.4 GB. The formatted capacity of a single-layer DVD is 4.38 GB. You can't burn that file to that disc because it is too big.

You could either re-encode the file to a slightly lower quality format to make a smaller version, or, if you have a dual-layer burner, you could buy a dual-layer disc and burn the original file.

If you are trying to make something that will play in a regular DVD player, then you are using the wrong approach altogether - you would need to use authoring software like Toast or iDVD.

Are you saying that after erasing the DVD it shows only 8KB free? If it does, that's your problem.
And as noted here by others, the 4.7 GB DVD is really 4.3 GB. It cannot hold a 4.4 GB file.
Can you burn anything onto the DVD? Try a smaller movie and see if you still have this problem.

well that means that these 4.7 are generally the biggest on the market and not to use for movies? because this 4.4 one is a normal length 112 min, even shorter than the 120 mins usually.
how do i burn it then??

yes i just inserted the empty dvd and it said space available 8kb....sh...

Then you have a defective DVD. When I erase a R/W DVD I get 4.3 GB available.
You might look into Toast Platinum. I find the default Leopard burner a tad below par.

I don't know how things work in... wherever-you-are, but in the USA, dual-layer DVDs are obviously a bit more expensive but they are certainly not hard to find. They hold about 8 GB. Here's an example of some on Amazon:
