Im an idiot for buying a used logic board..right? Right..

My logic board fried. the magsafe had a short and fired the left i/o and the logic board. My warranty is beyond over. I bought a new left i/o first to see if that was the problem, but it was both of them that were fried. So, I bought a used logic board from a person on ebay. A new board costs 1000.00 - I could buy an entire macbook pro 17" 2.16ghz for 1200.00. The used board was 500.00 The board doesn't work.

I build computers all of the time. I asked the man if he could have bent the board when removing it. He said no.. then I asked why he parted a working macbook pro. I had figured someone busted an LCD and would rather part it than go through what it would cost for a new one. His answer was that a customer wanted adobe master suite installed then couldn't pay for it. I asked why he didn't reformat and transfer the adobe license.

Did I just buy a stolen board from an idiot that didn't know how to remove it?

Hey Patina,
Welcome to Apple Support Discussion Forums.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Yes, buying used parts on eBay has inherent risks. I have had good experiences so far but others haven't. You've got the option of dealing with the seller and seeing if he'll refund your money. I suppose it is possible that the board is still good and there is some other problem but I'm not sure how you would establish that save taking apart a working unit, installing the board in question and trying to fire it up.
Let us know how it turns out.
John
