Mini displayport to DVI not working with my Sceptre X20G-NagaIII monitor
I just purchased the mini displayport to DVI adapter this evening. I hook it up to my cheapo Sceptre monitor, which uses single link DVI-D, and nothing happens. I go into the Display preference panel and click Detect Displays and nothing happens. I've power cycled the Mac, and the display multiple times and still nothing. The display goes into sleep mode since it doesn't detect any video signal.
Did I overlook something when I set this up? I can't imagine how I could have, but it's not working in the slightest.
I hope the displayport itself isn't fried. 😟
MacBookPro5,1,
Mac OS X (10.5.5),
MacBook Pro (Late 2008), 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD
Well, this is sad. Looks like the problem isn't the displayport to dvi adapter, nor my MacBook Pro. My monitor is just a piece of **. Turns out it works just fine with an Apple display (tested at their store), and also with my Dell monitor at work. I'm thinking of swapping out the DVI monitor cable on my cheapo monitor and see if that works. If not, I'll dump it on craigslist and start saving up for the new Apple 24" monitor, which is gorgeous, btw (also saw in store).
Yep, it works fine with my Windows desktop machine and my OpenBSD server. I've used both DVI and VGA cables with it and both work fine with PC's.
I brought home a DVI cable from work that worked fine with the Mac and my work Dell monitor. The new DVI cable didn't work with my Sceptre monitor and the Mac.
I am having the EXACT same problem with the same monitor and same macbook pro and have just been pulling my hair out. Is it really the monitor or does anyone else have some input? Could it potentially be the dvi cable we are using that came with the Sceptre monitor?
If anyone else out there has any other suggestions besides having to purchase a new monitor, i would gladly try it!
Either way, I'm glad I found this forum (thank you) and I do agree the monitor *****, but hey, it's the only external one i've got right now!
FYI, there's other threads where people are reporting all kinds of problems with various external displays. None of the threads I've read so far describes our problem, but I've had issues with my work Dell monitor similar to what others are reporting.
I suspect that either the DP to DVI adapter is crap, or our DP is crap and Apple might need to put out a firmware update to fix it, like they just did with the trackpad issues.
I guess being an early adopter of new Apple technology can be painful sometimes.
cough*iphone*cough 🙂
I just picked up a DVI adapter to try with a Gateway FDP1765 monitor at work. I have the same problem. The monitor just goes to sleep mode and nothing happens. Thank goodness the VGA works. 😟
I am having the same exact problem with the same exact model monitor. I thought it might have been the adaptor or even the port itself but when I hooked it up to another monitor, it worked fine. Does anyone know if Sceptre has known issues with MAC's? Also, I'm using the DVI converter, does anyone thing the the VGA one will work better?
I am having the same problem with my Sceptre X20WC-gamer. The Sceptre site says this in their FAQ:
5. Are Sceptre LCD Panels Apple (Macintosh) compatible?
Yes, they are. However, they have ether to be connected to Power Macintosh either using an IBM VGA card or the Macintosh with separate sync on video sync signal output . The LCD panels are not compatible with conventional Macintosh because it uses sync on green on video sync output.
Still haven't quite figured out what this means. I'm assuming VGA must work at least, since I see posts with people who have successfully connected a Sceptre to a Macintosh...
