I have no idea! I have been waiting since they were announced. In the keynote they said it would be October, but that doesn't seem to be the case considering it's November 3. Maybe they meant next October I hope not!

I found new Apple earphone with mic/control at a local Apple store two days ago. They aren't the in-ear headphones, but the standard Apple earphones with mic/control. Hopefully they'll have the in-ear ones soon.

I know what you mean, they did say October release date. I've waited since the keynote and put off buying anything other pair of earphone sine my other ones died. I wish they'd hurry up and get these shipped out if not i'll buy something else.

Are you sure they're not the iPhone headphones with mic/control? They, as far as I know, only work with the iPhone. If you saw the real things I'll be in the car to the Apple store before you can count to 5. :{0

I asked an Apple Reseller and he told me
"The ear-phones (New In-Ear) are announced for November, without more precision for the moment unfortunately."

I can say fairly certainly that they (the Apple iPhone headset) won't work with the iPod Touch 2G -- that is to say the earphones work, the mic works, but you'll have no control over pausing/skipping music tracks.

I bought them at an Apple store in London a couple of weeks ago and returned them for that reason.

Interesting that the store 1) accepted the return and 2) had no idea that the headphones should provide music control (it's mentioned nowhere in the packaging, only on the website product description -- where it also in fact misleadingly says they're 'compatible' with the iPod Touch 2G...)

are you sure about that? I own both iphone 3G, 2G ipod touch. earbuds for iphone with mic/playback control is working with 2G ipod touch as well, excepting microphone feature. press twice is next song, three times is previous song, press one time is stop & play. I am sure about it. but I don't like earbuds because it sounds terrible. wire is not smooth after folding.

I also would like to know if they would work with the iPhone as well. Of course it says they are not compatible but why would there be a mic for the iTouch, and other iPods?

    Interesting, ArchUrban...

Yes, I had the MA814LLA "Apple Stereo headset with Mic" and found that with my iPod Touch 2G the microphone worked perfectly (I made a few Skype calls using fring), but that I had no control over the music playback.

I'm starting to think it's maybe not so surprising that it's taking longer than was initially suggested for Apple to get these new-Touch-compatible headsets out...

I rang one of the apple store yesterday and they said that they WILL work with the iphone 3G and that they will be out in November. Seemed a stupid answer as November is over this weekend. My fingers are well and truly crossed
