Is there a way to allow a guest to have access to my network without revealing the primary password? In other words, I would like to keep the primary password secure and have a guest password that would allow my daughter's babysitter temporary access. I have one Airport Extreme for the house. I am sure that there is way to do this if I purchase another airport, but I want to avoid that.
MacBook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.5.5),
17" Display, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD
I thought that there was a way to list the sets (IP addresses) that were allowed to use an Airport. But, I have looked at Airport Utility and found nothing.
If that capability is in Airport Utility, then I would think that that would be what you are looking for. Say that you have 2 Mac's plus the babysitter's PC. If you could enter the IP addresses for each one, then you could tell Airport Utility that ONLY THE LISTED IP's have permission to use your AE. Then it wouldn't matter if the babysitter gave out your network name and password, if their set's IP address is not listed as authorized to connect they won't be able to have access to the internet.
Page 26 of the Setup Guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Express_SetupGuide.pdf) for the n-capable Airport Express (AXn) shows several options for providing guest access using the AirPort Utility. I can't tell whether it would work for you with the older AXg, which is what I inferred you have, but you could try it and see.

Oops. I meant "g-capable AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSg)." But, since you posted in the Extreme-n forum, you more likely have an AEBSn.
These guest-access features aren't mentioned in the AEBSn Setup Guide, but receive passing mention in the latest Designing Networks manual, so there's a chance they're supported on the AEBSn.
Thanks for the info. I knew that I had seen something that allowed access by entering the IP address. I just couldn't remember where. The next time my son visits with his Dell windows, I'll enter the IP address instead of giving him my closed network name and password.
