idvd quits unexpectantly

I unfortunately had to reinstall my macbook to the install disks. Every program works except for Idvd. I just made an awesome imovie project and need idvd to help finish this diddy.

Did I forget to "add" idvd to my mac? idvd shows in the dock but does not launch because it can not find it's "library" for idvd.

Is this just a reload of the utilities disk to add idvd? what should I do?
any help would be appreciated User uploaded file

First drag and drop the icon for iDvd on the dock to the desktop. It should vanish in a "puff".

Now go to your applications folder on the boot volume (your main HD) and launch iDvd directly from there with a double click on the iDvd folder. Does the app launch as expected, or not?

If not, drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash and Restart your mac. Use the finder (happy face on the dock) to locate this item/s:

com.apple.iDvd.plist

Try the app again directly from the applications folder. Let's assume it now launches as expected. Now drag the app for iDvd directly to your dock and you will now be able to launch iDvd from the dock.

If neither of the above are of any help then you may also need to perform these steps as well:

Good luck.

Thank you SDmacuser!

I have tried to move idvd to the desktop and then relaunch from applications. That failed to work. Then I followed your link to essential delete the themes and relaunch. Again, not effective.

I then put in my install disks to try to add idvd. I am not sure I did this step right!?

I did not find an option to just install idvd therefore I installed "bundled software" Is this right? Well, I do not think so b/c I still can not open idvd. it can not find the library.

Please help me find out what else i could try.

Thanks!

The following are some recommended fixes to try keeping in mind you have apparently already tried the first listed recommendation:

iDVD '08: The application may unexpectedly quit when opened for the first time at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306290

This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and drag it to the desktop. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

iLife Support 8.1.1 at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ilifesupport811.html for Tiger users

iDVD 7.0.1 at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/idvd701.html

If you are using Leopard, make sure you check your Apple Software Update in System Preferences.

Only after you having attempted all of the above but to no avail would I recommend using the following utility or app at your own discretion followed by yet one more attempt at reinstalling iDvd'08:

Thank you SDuser for your help thus far....

I have been able to make some progress with this issue. I basically deleted anything that was related to idvd on my computer then reinstalled idvd from the install disk. At least now I can open idvd and name a project, the only problem is the program does not fully open forcing me to force quit the program without ever being able to run the program.

So I....

put in the install disk again and ran a disk utility and "fixed" permissions. I am still not able to use idvd.

I am keeping my head up, but this problem is starting wear me down.
