KVM switch and monitor resolution

I have a Mac and a PC on an USB-KVM-Audio switch. I was satisfied (except of the fact, that the DVD burner ejects on booting the Mac) until I purchased a new 16:9 LCD display. The optimum resolution of this display is 1680x1050.

When I connect the monitor directly to the Mac the display is recognized correctly and I can choose 1680x1050 from the control panel. If I connect it through the KVM switch the switch registers as a VGA-display on the Mac and the Mac starts with factory settings and the monitor is witched to VGA-display with the result, that the 1680x1050 is removed from the list and cannot be choosen any longer. The Mac switches to 1600x1024 which is not good for my eyes. If I start the Mac with the monitor directly connected unplugging the VGA cable, connecting it with the KVM switch and the switch with the Mac the signal is passed through correctly (1680x1050). After restart the Mac kills the setting switching to 1600x1024 again.

If I start my PC before, there is a manual override (desktop, right mouse key properties, display, extended, graphic card, show all resolutions) I can choose 1680x1050 without problem, the monitor works with 1680x1050 and this information is passed through to the Mac, which starts with 1680x1050 even now.

How can I force my Mac to start without Plug&Play and without the PC with a resolution of 1680x1050 or how can I add 1680x1050 to the resolution list with VGA-display? The corresponding ColorSync profile can be chosen manually with the CS-Service application.

Mac G4 AGP 450 MHz, Mac OS X (10.4.11), ATI Radeon 7500, profile L20W

...one possible solution and THE SOLUTION, thank you. I can reply firstly now because the finding of the correct setting took a little bit time. So I had to set it to 1680x1052 instead of 1680x1050. I'm experimenting on with other settings to get a correct 1024x768 on my screen, not the desktop extpanded on both sides to the whole screen.
