Export selection as audio file

Question

Export selection as audio file

Hey,

I can export a selection to a MIDI file, I can export a region to an audio file, and I can export a track to audio file. But I can't export a selection of audio regions to a new audio file. Anyone know why this is, and if there's a work-around? I tried setting locators to the selection and exporting the track to new audio file, hoping that with the locators active, it would only export the section of the track I had within the locators, but no such luck, it still exported the entire track into the new audio file.

If this is something simple, sorry for wasting your time. But it would save me a lot of time if I can export my selected audio regions as a new audio file instead of the entire track.

Try hi-lighting the audio files and use the 'glue' tool.. it will replace the selections with one new 'merged' audio region.

Just out of curiosity, is there a good reason you can't export a selection to an audio file? Or is that something that hopefully will be addressed in the next upgrade. It seems odd to me that I can export a selection as a MIDI file, but not as an audio file.

INterestingly enough, absolutely nothing happens when I try to use the glue tool...Don't you just shift-click on the regions you want to join? Am I missing something here?

Oh, and also selected with glue tool, then selected region->merge->regions, and still nothing happens

uh...okay, this time it worked...

Not sure why, but this time, went through the exact same steps, and it did work. merged. one audio file.

the only difference was I turned solo off. Does soloing a track somehow prevent the merge command from working?

I'm confused...

Hi Morry,

You could bounce a selection though. First select, then hit 's' (solo mode), then bounce.

Thanks Eric, and yes I could bounce it, but then, if I am not mistaken, it would end up being a stereo file, and I want to keep it as a mono file.

I don't believe there is any way to use the bounce feature without creating a stereo file. I suppose I could be wrong...???

Hi Morry,

Yes, I suppose you could be... the good news is: you are!
So,in the mixer, set the *output channel strip* (the one with the B button) to mono (click the little doublecircle symbol right below the level meters in the mixer). If you then hit its' bounce button, you'll get a mono file.

Well, you learn something new every day. Never occurred to me that I could change the OUTPUT from stereo to mono, though I'm aware of that control for individual tracks.

And I say to that, "Duh." seems pretty straight forward. And less steps than using the glue tool.

Indeed. A bad day is when I haven't. To find out about the mono bounce was new to me too, as I only use stereo files - even for mono sources.
