Homeworld 2 problems

I got the game Homeworld 2 a few months ago and never got around to playing it and decided to pop it in today to check it out. To my surprise it quits at start up. I've downloaded the patch but that doesn't do jack. So did I pretty much waste my money or is there some way to make it work? I have a 3.06Ghz iMac
