Length of App Name and changing app name after release

Hello,

My first application (Shape Dropper (a beta version until I find a graphic artist)) was approved last week and it appears that there may be a limit on the length of the application name. When installed on the iPhone, it appears as Shape...pper. Looking at other apps that I have installed, the max length that I see is 12 characters. Is that true?

If the answer to my 1st question is true, can I just change the name in the AppStore when I release my next version?

Thank You.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

If you're talking about the name that appears below the application icon once the application has been installed, that has nothing to do with the name in the App Store. It is controlled by the "Bundle display name" setting in your info.plist file; and as such you can change it whenever you like, though Apple might well reject your update if the name was unrelated to the name you're using in the App Store.

You don't really have an excuse, though. When you were testing the application, both the Simulator and your physical device ended up with an app icon with text below it, and you could have checked the appearance then.

The limit is to do with physical width rather than number of characters.

Of course, you may be talking about something other than the name below the caption - in which case, please don't read this reply!

Actually, the name can be changed, and it's a simple process...

To change the name in the App Store, just log into iTunes Connect, select the app and edit the data. This change doesn't require Apple approval and will occur fairly quickly.

To change the name in the application (i.e. what is being displayed on the device), you'll need to change your info.plist file and resubmit. When existing customers get the update, the on-device name will change to the new value.

Name changes are explicitly allowed to account for service/trade marks (i.e. someone has a trademark on a name you're using, you need to be able to change the name to something uninfringing).

You cannot, however, change your AppID, which will follow your app forever.
