length of IUID

Hi,

is the IUID (iPhone unique identification string) always 40 characters long? (The IUID of the simulator has only 36 characters).

It's defined as a NSString in UIDevice which infers that you can't count on the length.

Sorry, I don't understand. Why is that?
I'm sending the IUID in an URL to a PHP script. Now I'm checking there if the IUID is between 30 and 50 characters long. Can I suspect the IUID to be in that range or do I have to disable the validation completely?

Based on Apple's definition in UIDevice there is no way to do a length edit. There may be another document that is more restrictive, but I don't know of one.
