Cool Trick: Create bullets for lists.

I found a neat little trick that lets you add bullets into any text you type. You can use this in emails, but I mainly use it in notes to arrainge my thoughts better.

First, you have to have the Japanese keyboard enabled. Don't worry if you don't know any Japanese, this trick doesn't require any actual language knowledge.

When typing, switch your input method to Japanese, then type in 'maru' (the Japanese word for circle). Just type the letters m a r u like you would in English. Below the text you are typing on screen a selector bar will appear to let you choose which version of maru you want to input. Tap the right arrow and the list will expand to give you a ton of different choices. If you scroll down just a little you should see several bullets you can choose from. I usually go for the solid black bullet, but that's just my personal choice.

When you tap the bullet you wanted, it'll appear in the text where you were just typing. Switch your input method back to English and you're good to go.

Also, the next time you need to add a bullet the one you chose before will appear directly in the first selection box, so you won't even have to expand the list at all.

BTW, I'm using a Japanese iPhone, but I'm pretty sure as long as you enable the Japanese keyboard in the general settings menu first this should work on any iPhone.

The bullets show just fine in the cc I sent myself, both on the iPhone and on the Mac.

Thanks! I realized after posting that there is actually nothing especially "Japanese" about the solid "maru" bullet, it is just U+25CF Black Circle. The official "Latin" bullet is U+2022. A lot more fonts have the latter than have the Black Circle, but that seems unlikely to cause a problem in practice.
