ipod classic 120gb problem with TV output using component cable

I'd hoped that technology had caught up with my aspirations but yet again I'm posting for help.

I have a brand new ipod classic 120gb, with a brand new apple dock and apple component cable.

It outputs stereo to my HiFi but WILL NOT output to TV through the component cable. I've changed various settings so that it outputs to TV and checked that the component input on the TV works [with my Arcam DVD player] but it still doesn't work on from the ipod.

It also comes up with the message "TV Out Enabled: Please Connect Video Accessory" when I press play in photo or video mode on the ipod, but even plugging and unplugging the component cable into the dock and ipod doesn't solve this. What the **** is going on?

Having the same problem. Tried to connect both via earplug and dock. Absolutely nothing on my TV (sound is great on my amplifier, but nothing on TV)
All settings on Ipod as they should be. Shifted colors on the Phono wires as well, just to try it.

Then tried to connect via my HDD - sount came out but no pics. My TV, Samsung 40A-556 notes that cable is plugged in but there's no signal.

I HATE IT - why can't it just work 🙂

Hope anyone can help me.

(this is the same reply I posted to a similar question. It would be good to know the part number of the composite cable people have as it appears there are two identical cables with different part numbers and one of them (for me as least) DOES NOT WORK with the classic 120Gb)

<snip>
I just bought a brand new iPod Classic 120Gb and the Apple AV Composite cable (MB129X/A)....and they do not work together. My iPod outputs video fine in a 3rd party video docking unit. The cable works with a 160Gb classic but not with my 120Gb one. This is despite the store telling me this is the only cable, the Australian Apple website showing that cable in the photo, and that part number in the shopping basket checkout, and the packaging on the cable saying it works with the iPod classic..... after conversations with the Apple help desk they said I need cable MB129LL/A. Google it and you find what looks exactly like the same cable as the one I bought but a different part number.

I have yet to find a shop that sells MB129ll/A to confirm this is true. The Mac store has heaps of the other (identical cable).

If I can't find a cable that works soon, I'm just going to return the classic as well and buy a non apple mp4 player (I only want to output movies in the car to LCD screens.
<end snip>

umm you have two possible solutions but you may need to consult an apple salesperson to confirm because im only partly sure of my answers.

your possible solutions could be...

i) i saw on this website but not sure where but it mentioned that apple switches the colour coding the usual av wires so the picture is fed though the red while the sound is fed through the yellow and white wires.(Check for confirmation)

ii)or the worst thing posible could happen.... the ipod classic 120gb is way too advanced for the cables and you would need to ask an apple customer support person or a salesperson in a store on any compatability issues.

even though my answers may not be direct solutions, but i hope they help you find a correct solution to your problem

I am getting really tired of the games Apple plays to make more money because Jobs still doesn't want to admit he blew it by not licensing the product like he was told. If you want the iPhone! so you can hear music outside of your ipod and surf while driving fine but after I get the $50 part that should cost about $3 I think I've had it with Apple's rip-offs and cheap junk like Belkin that doesn't work and is rountinely called junk by the honest workers at the AppleStore. Apple will never catch up to the PC and unless they clean up their act they deserve it.
