same problem here
I've been venting about this problem for days... 10 now, since I made the deadly decision to install the latest iTunes. Silly, I thought Apple would release a product that was ready.

I'm in the same boat in that none of Apple's instructions helped. And Anthony - they were written before 5.0 came out... so I wasn't that optimistic in all that disabling, removing, rebooting, reinstalling, etc.

I was going to re-install 4.9 (which is a bit of a challenge because you have to save your music and rename it, etc)
But I think I'm going to try and sit "patiently" for the 5.0 fix to come out. When? I don't know. But I've wasted many many hours sitting here pulling my hair out.

My iTunes 5.0 is playing music off my PC, my iPod works and I can charge it elsewhere. Just can't sync/add new music with this latest 5.0/disaster.I haven't had any Windows crashes - so I don't want to risk playing around again.

That's my only advice.
This is the post to go back to 4.9

I hope that when the fix does come out... it fixes ALL these problems.
I'm also experiencing a slllooooow startup to iTunes 5.0

hang in there...

I wish I had of came to this section 6 hours ago. I just wasted all of that time trying all of the Apple suggestions on how to fix this error as well as some of my own thoughts.

What I have discovered, is the iPodservice.exe does not running on my Windows XP. It does not look like I can do anything to fix it, so I guess I'll have to wait for a fix along with everyone else.

Any idea how we'll know when the fix has been released?
