Lost Pages Document when Computer Turned off---Can it be retrieved?

There are free utilities that can autosave your documents, such as:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27504/savecircle

These won't help you now but could give you a safety net in future.

There is also an AppleScript able to autosave iWork's documents.
Not only it saves the doc in the native format but it saves a time stamped zip archive allowing us to recover file if the HD crash.

File recovery tools are unable to recover iWork's native documents but they are able to recover zip archives.

What if I closed a document without saving, but I didn't turn off the computer? Is there any way to access a temporary file?

Same bad news. No save, no recovery. I save often for the same reason I don't keep my money in a pants pocket with a hole in it.
