That's what I am interested in, too. Who thinks, to activate the external monitor only, it is easy to close the lid, send the mac to sleep and rewake it is "easy"!??? That's simply annoying. I always reopen the lid for temperature-reasons. It can't be goold to let the lid get that warm. So when the screen is switched of for powersaving and I reavtivate it with the lid open, the lid gets activated, too. ANNYOING!!!
Allday-example: Use the Mac with Front Row and a LCD-TV. I don't want to connect external keyboard for that. I simply want only the external monitor to be activated, enter my password on the MBP and use Front Row. No closelid-standby-plugexternalkeyboard-rewake-procedure.
Is there any possibility, maybe something like pmset for the standbyfunctions that are not adjustable via GUI (deep sleep) - what is pretty annoying, too - to activate an "external display only"-mode?
I really don't understand this close-lid-sleep-rewake-thing. Who creates such "functions"!?
Please add another feature to the next update and allow us to use such a mode or tell me how to do that today. It's frustrating, that windows-users have an easier way to use this simple feature. Easiest possible way: add the mode to F7.
