airport extreme loses internet connection every couple days

My (new) airport extreme loses its internet connection (blinking amber light) every couple days and requires a power-cycle to fix it. I have a motorola 2210 dsl modem and sonic.net dsl service. The modem (which also can function as a router) is in bridge mode and my dsl service does not require logging in, no PPPoE or whatever it's called.

Has anyone else had this problem before? What could be causing it? More importantly how can I fix it? It seems like the airport is holding on to the IP address too long or something and the modem is taking it away.

Started having the same problem yesterday. Connection stopped three times, stayed up for around an hour. PPPOE is happening. I've have my Airport Extreme for a few months.

Hi there,

Same problem here.
Almost every hour Pc/Mac have to refresh the connection.
Furthermore most of the time when I start my Mac it has no connection wireless connection at all; I have turn airport off and then on to make my connection work again.

This started (most probably) after I turned on security like WPA2.
I will today turn off the security and see if it makes a difference.

My MacBook (10.4.11) was fab and then about a couple of months ago it wasn't- now it connects - then loses signal and eventually drops the connection - this happens regardless of distance to the router of which router in whichever country I'm in. I've tried it using 10.5 from an external drive but it's the same thing - I took my laptop apart (allow an hour and a lot of care and patience ) but couldn't see any identifiable hardware problem. The same problem kicks in using ethernet - even if I route the ethernet through by USB port. I've seen a tip sheet at Mac Fixit which has about 1000 suggestions - but nothing in any specific order to try. Nothing else apart from this is playing up - I'm loathe to buy a new MacBook only to find I still have these issues
