Unable to scan with Epson Stylus CX3810 ??

I've recently inherited an Epson Stylus CX3810 all-in-one printer/scanner. Epson's driver download page includes NO Mac drivers for this model, but I've finally been able to get it to print using Gutenprint v5.2.1. However, I can't get the scanner recognized. In Graphic Converter I'm unable to scan. Epson does have a beta version of drivers listed on their 10.5 compatibility page, but will that work under 10.4.11?

Is there a "generic" TWAIN scanner driver that can be used for this model? Something similar to Gutenprint, but for scanners instead of print drivers? I'm running OS 10.4.11.

G4 Dual 1Gig MDD, PowerBook G4 667, MacPlus!, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi JB,

I doubt the 10.5 driver will work in Tiger, but Vuescan does I believe, and you can have it hand the Scan off to Graphic Converter or any other APP...

Thanks for your response, and for the tip about Vuescan. I checked their supported scanners and the CX3800 is listed, so I assume the 3810 will work as well (in the same "family" perhaps?). Unfortunately... I'm a bit financially-challenged at the moment, so I was really hoping for an open source or free solution. Does anyone know of one of those?

Thanks again. Yes, I spent hours last night trying to understand how to install Sane, Xsane, Xscanimage, etc. Front-ends, back-ends... I don't know from all that, and thought there might be something I could just simply install. Everything I'm reading about Sane just keeps running me around in circles.. you need Sane, but then you also need a front-end, and a back-end, and this other thing...

I'll keep trying to figure out what to do with all that. Thanks again for your time.
