Question

dvd drive makes noise when sleeping or awakening

hi bought one of the new macbook's and everytime I put it to sleep, the dvd drive makes a racket. Is their anyway to turn it off? have it activate via software only? to save some power and some noise?

G4 500/1.4 G OWC, AGP Sawtooth 768 MB RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

My 2006 MacBook Pro did this. My late 2008 aluminum MacBook does this. I suspect that it is related to reseting the SATA bus when starting from sleep. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it. Just ignore it or buy a MacBook Air that doesn't have an internal DVD drive 🙂

Is it when it is going to sleep or when starting up from sleep? Because one is abnormal and the other is normal.

Mine does it when "waking" from sleep but I have never heard it when going to sleep.
