Need to remove album ratings in itunes

I need to remove the album ratings. They are REALLY annoying and ruining my playlists. Please help! Why have album ratings AND song ratings if the album ratings are just going to override the song ratings?

The Album rating does not override the Song ratings.

You can rate both.
If the album/song rating shows hollow/outlined stars, that is based on the ratings you gave the other (Song or Album).
If the rating stars are solid, that is the rating you gave that specific item (Album or song).

Yeah, this is REALLY bugging me too. When this feature showed up I experimented with it a bit but now really don't find it useful.

The problem is that once you've set an album rating you can never seem to clear it. It was the same way with track ratings for a long time until they gave you a way to select "none" from the right-click menu.

Is there any known way to do the same thing with the overall album rating???

Thanks, I just spent some time looking at unrelated posts only to find this answer.

Perhaps this should be made more intuitive, since there seems to be no indication the area to the left of the stars are even clickable. Also, it appears there is no way to unrate albums using the "Get Info" panel, which is odd since everything else can be changed from there.

Yeah, I really don't use album ratings much. Because of like you said, if you rate an album, all songs that are unrated will default to an "estimate rating" which will still be used in smart playlist creation. Because an estimated 4 stars is the same as a 4 star song to a smart playlist.

I just rate songs one by one, and only rate TV seasons with album rating. Works for me.

My iTunes library has only done this annoying album rating to one album, but the hollowed out stars won't go away!
I've clicked to the left of the leftmost star, but the hollowed stars return immediately. And as I believe i have OCD, this is quite literally driving me crazy. Isn't there something you can change in the settings to make them go away?

It would be much easier to not have to "un-rate" albums you like by adding a "Song Rating" selection to the smart playlist. I like having the albums rated but if I didn't specifically rate a song in that album 5 stars, I wouldn't want it showing up in my "5 Star" playlist.

There is already a selection for the "Album Rating", so why would I want it included in the regular, "Rating" anyway?

more intuitive? seriously, this is terrible oversight on the part of iTunes. You have some guy named Doug that created a script for Apple computer users to solve this exact problem. (see http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/windowshelp.php) There are like 10 million things that work in Apple's iTunes. It's just amazing that they missed this one little thing.

And when it matters again, I'm going to totally forget that I wrote on this post with the solution and search another 2 hours when I need to figure it out again.

Hopefully Apple will figure this one out.

I too cannot get rid of the album rating. It only started with a VERY large compilation I have and after I updated to 8.1.0.52. I've tried clicking to the left of one track, and all tracks, and GET INFO but nothing will stop rating it which messes up my smart playlist.

Why haven't they made the smart playlists see the difference between song rating and album rating?

I have the solution! I'm using iTunes 8.1.1 so this is how I do it. Search for the album so that you see the cover art on the left with the song list on the right. Select all the songs, then right click and set rating to none. If this doesn't work, you will see some hollow stars. Underneath the album art, click and hold one of the stars (this is the album rating) and drag the mouse to the left past the first star and let go. This should delete the rating completely.

Hope this helps.

Not a solution, but a workaround. Create a new regular playlist called *Rated Tracks* and drag in everything you've given an explicit rating rather than those that have an infered rating via an album rating. In other words, sort your library on Rating and then drag in the tracks with solid stars. Now modify your *5 Star* playlist so that it includes only tracks that are also in the *Rated Tracks* playlist.

Looking at the earlier threads on this topic it seems this is a Windows issue and that the Mac version of iTunes processes ratings differently.
