AVI is a container for video. If you take the video into Quicktime to make an AVI your going to have to re-compress the video in order to make an AVI. There is a none setting in Quicktime for making an AVI. Why mess with the video/audio in Quicktime even tho there is a none setting. (Famous last words, "what happen to my video!?!")
Why not use MPEG-Streamclip to rewrap the video into an AVI.

Even if you don't use the above, you should get MPEG-Streamclip to be apart of your video tools.
There is a setting for making an AVI in compressor. Under the "Export Quicktime Components in the Inspector window.
