Apple AirPort Express - Streaming Music on iTunes - Frequent Music Drop out

*Apple AirPort Express - Streaming Music on iTunes - Frequent Music Drop outs*

I have just purchased an Apple AirPort Express for the sole use of streaming music from my laptop to my home cinema system.

My system has bundles of power (Core 2 Duo, 3gb RAM, 320gb hard disk, Intel-N WiFi) and is running Windows Vista Premium. I am using the latest version of iTunes (version 8) and have it setup to play through remote speakers. I have my AirPort Express connected to my home cinema system.

When I play music on iTunes through ONLY my computer speakers I have no problem with drop outs.

However, when I play music through either (1) my AirPort Express or (2) multiple speakers (i.e. the AirPort Express and my computer speakers together) I experience frequent and unbelievably annoying drop outs in the music stream.

I have determined this has nothing to do with interference with the wireless signal and believe this is something to do with iTunes - the reason being the drop outs occur in BOTH the computer speakers AND the AirPort Express speakers (when I select multiple speakers) but does not occur when I select ONLY the computer speakers.

Please could you provide some advice on this as I am unable to use the AirPort!

Many thanks

Elliot

I too had issues with music drop outs with the iTunes/Airport Express/iPad Remote App solution and gave up in the end as it became embarrassing and unusable. I'm actually really surprised Apple have got away with providing a device that doesn't work as described.

I was just about to eBay my AE to some other poor soul when I heard the fantastic news that iOS 4.2 on my iPad was going to enable me to stream from my iPad direct to AE and my Bose speakers, cutting out the iTunes middleman.

I have to unfortunately report that even with this new simplified solution, drop outs are still occasionally occuring, enough to still make this unusable. My iPad and AE are in the same room about 2 feet apart.

I do hope somehow that this gets sorted out with my IPad and Airport Express as this was the primary reason for purchasing these two bits of expensive hardware.

*Apple - where are you?* Please can you look at this? Lots of people are experiencing a similar problem.

I did try uninstalling and then reinstalling a fresh version of iTunes without success. There must be a solution!
Incidentally, I have seen some suggestions that rolling back to iTunes 7.x fixes the problem - but the only way to do that is download iTunes from a third party website which I am not happy to do (security risk, loss of functionality versus 8.x etc).

*APPLE, please help!*

I am having the exact same issue. I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard, everything up to date. iTunes plays fine on the "computer speakers" but when I try to stream to the airport express (which is set up correctly via the airport utility) it is a disaster. It is so frustrating. I can have the airport express sitting 5 feet from my computer and it still does it. Please, please someone help.

I had the same issue. I started keeping a log of the drop out times and duration.
The drop outs were occurring roughly once in a give 20-40 minute period of listening and would last for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute.

I was running iTunes 8. I downgraded to iTunes 7.5 on my MacBook Pro and the problem went away completely. On my Mac Mini I am still running iTunes 8 and when I stream from the mini I get the drop outs. When I stream from the MacBook Pro it plays continuously for hours where previously under iTunes 8 I had the drops.

Looks to me like an iTunes 8 issue.

Hi, I'm form Buenos Aires Argentina and I have a similar problem, the difference is that I cant hear from the remote speakers at all (work fine with the computer). With my old version of I tunes 7.7 works perfect but when i install the 8.0 (because I bought an Itouch) stop working. Anybody knows what I have to do?
Thanks

Adding my voice to the fray-

I have iTune 8.0.2.20 running on my home machine (winXP). It simply does not recognize my Airport Express units. I have iTunes 8.0.1 on my laptop (also winXP)and it does find the remote speakers. Want the laugh? I installed the laptop AFTER the home machine- which leads me to believe Apple may have done a quiet rollback.

Anyone who has specific solutions, please post ASAP.
