Hello, today the bottom bar (the part with my phone, mail, safari, and sms)froze....as did the slide lock. The top parts with all the apps works perfectly well, but I cannot phone or get my emails, surf the web by safari icon or text. When I make a call by my contacts it works fine....till i have to end the call, I cant and have to turn the whole phone off. I have tried turning it off and on, Ive tried a reset, even a reinstall.....it is still frozen, any ideas before it costs me a small fortune or I bin it?? Im lost without it. thankyou.

I had this same issue started last saturday, bottom strip, no repsonse to touch, I researched the internet and found this is a much bigger problem altogether. I bought the iphone from someone who never broke the seal on it in August 2008. activated it on August 8, the 1 yr warranty expired aug 31,2008. Called apple, couldnt help, just said to go into an apple store to see what they could do, so with numerous printouts of this issue, i went to the nearest store. explained the situation and they offered to only charge me 99.00. Now my phone is immaculate, looks new right out of the box so i guess that helped my case. I did get the Genius to admit that a phone 4 months old that has the screen go out would be considered defective by any standard. much luck all

I have had the same problem just last night but it involved the upper two rows of the screen. so I can't use text messaging, camera, numbers 1-6 on the keypad, not to mention that my settings is there so i cant turn on wi fi !! I took it to the apple store showed them the link on Apple's website dated Oct 7th 2008 which describes this very same problem and talks about replacing devices even outside of warranty so they checked and apparently they are replacing all affected models manufactured in 2007 Weeks 23-30 ... mine happens to be manufactured on week 34 ... so they wanted me to pay 199 for replacement but that was just ridiculous as it's obviously a defect that is acknowledged in those early models being replaced and it's just a matter of time before people with slightly new models beyond week 30 start experiencing the problem like I (and probably you) did. I ended up upgrading to a 3G and holding on to my defective iphone until apple finally admits those defects and recalls further models

I purchased my iphone on the first day, and paid 600 bucks for it. Never violated any of the Terms and usage. Monday night a strip of the iphone screen became unresponsive. I did a back up and restore and nothing works. I had read that there had been problems last year with some parts of the screen failing to respond, either the top half or bottom.

Mine is weirder, it is only a small strip across the screen, if I bring up the number pad all the buttons except 4 5 6 respond.

Anyone else have a similar issue?

I took it to the apple store, unfortunately I did not buy the apple care. But I was hoping that they would still send it out for repair. To no avail their solution is for me to buy a replacement, for 200 bucks.
