Airport Express in Hotel for iPod Touch?

I'm tired of lugging around my Macbook just to check email. It would be great to take a airport express and my ipod touch to a hotel and plug the airport express into the provided ethernet connection and create my own wireless network for my ipod touch.

Is there an airport utility for the ipod touch so I can change settings in the airport express to get connected to a hotel ethernet connection?

I am new to Airport Express (don't have one yet, but have done some research on it).

Just to confirm then, is there no way at all to do what the original post suggested ie "It would be great to take a airport express and my ipod touch to a hotel and plug the airport express into the provided ethernet connection and create my own wireless network for my ipod touch."? That would be amazing if it were possible.

This is a good question. However, if it did work, the Airport Express (AE) would have to be left at factory default settings, as such to prevent your own settings from interfering. (It would broadcast the network name as, "Apple Network..." followed by several random letters and numbers.)

To reset to factory default settings:
Press and hold in the reset button to restore to factory default.

Hope this help.

When I started using my Airport Express at home, my only purpose was to extend my wired network to allow me to use my IPod touch wirelessly throughout my house. I configured it to set up a new wireless network and act as a bridge and plugged in a network cable from my LinkSys BEFSR41 router. The AE grabbed the correct settings from my internet provider (Shaw Cable) and both my IPod touch and my wife's were able to access the internet via this WiFi connection.
Would not this same setup grab the appropriate settings from a wired connection in a hotel environment allowing internet access??

If you configured the AirPort Express (AX) to act as a bridge, there are no other settings that it needs from your local network. Therefore the AX did not grab anything.

Configuring your AX to act as a bridge may work at the hotel. If it doesn't you won't be able to change the AX configuration using the iPod Touch.

Yes, I've done this successfully. Bought an Airport Express on a trip and used it to hook my iPod Touch up with the hotel's free ethernet connection. Used the factory default settings since I didn't really care if anyone stole the HOTEL'S internet. It just took a while for the Airport Express to broadcast a signal, so it seemed like it wasn't working at first. The iPod loaded the hotel's internet access user agreement just fine and the rest was smooth sailing! Your mileage may vary depending on the hotel, though.
