iPhone 3G and 2009 Audi A4

Hey I have a couple of questions:

1) When I'm trying to sync up to my bluetooth on my car it is asking for a pin number, where do I get this number so that I can sync up to my car?

2) When I try to plug my phone into the iPhone cable in the glove compartment it comes up on my phone as this device is not recognized, but the salesman at the dealership said that the phone should sync up without any problems.

The number is like a passcode which is entered in both devices so that they are authorised to pair.

For many factory installed car kits, the number is fixed for the car kit, listed in your car user manual somewhere, and must be entered in the iphone.

The pin was in my A5 manual under bluetooth. The default was 1234 but I think it makes you change it the first time.

I haven't tried my iphone with the ipod cable but my itouch works fine. You might have to disable the bluetooth and only use it either as a phone with bluetooth or ipod with the cable. I'll try mine this weekend.

I just tried it. My iphone said something about this device is not made for the iphone would I like to put it in airplane mode with a yes/no choice. The traffic light turned green so I didn't have time to answer but at the next light the popup was gone and when I switched to aux in the car it started playing fine just like any other ipod. Someone also called me at the same time and the phone still worked too.

The default pass codes for Audi cars is "1234" and if you plug into the glove box adapter you have to put your phone into airplane mode. I got a nano for the glove box, and have my phone out, so I can use it for maps/texts/emails etc. It is lame that there is no easy way to play the music on your phone through the car. It needs an aux cable in the arm rest or something.

You don't have to put it into airplane mode. I just answered no when it asked me to switch modes and it works fine. I've had it connected all weekend and made calls at the same time.

In the past I have gotten a "device not made for iPhone" message with one of those charger/FM transmitter accessories. When I did get the message I was still able to transmit audio but the iPhone 3G would not take a charge.

Can anyone who has had this issue confirm that the car charges the phone as well as transmit audio and data?

I suggest buying a decent car before trying to figure out how to attach it with an iPod

If only there's a way to stop iPod from playing, then you can use Pandora or YouTube to stream audio to the stereo.

Workaround is to unsync all of your songs from iTunes so there isn't any playable file, and whatever program you're running will stream.

well i currently have a 2006 range rover, and it is a complete mess when it comes to the electronics. the car is crap. so the way i see it, anything (including a yugo at this point) that can handle bluetooth and an iphone with out me needing to pull fuses to reboot the computer is a step forward.
