iTunes Remote Speakers "An unknown error occurred (-15000)" non Apple AP

I get "An unknown error occurred (-15000)" in iTunes when I use my MacBook running OS X 10.5.5 and iTunes 8.01(12) and pick my ATV to play as "Remote Speakers". There have been quite a few discussions on this topic; however none have resolved my problem as I don't use an Apple AP (Access Point) for my wireless networking.

My ATV is hard wired via Ethernet to a LinkSys WRT54G Router. I have tested this with 2 other Windows PC's, one running XP and the other running Vista, both are running iTunes 8.1 and they have no issue. I also tested with another MacBook (white model, before I returned for new MacBook) and it too had the same ERROR message. When I hardwire (Ethernet) my MacBook and turn off my AirPort (802.11n) wireless card all works fine (interesting).

I've tried ALL solutions posted including Firewall settings and IP V6 and still no joy 😟. I also have no problem when streaming from my MacBook to Apple TV and the only issue is when I try to use ATV as "Remote Speakers" from my MacBook when it's wireless. The issue seems to be in the local AirPort and not in the OS or iTunes as all discussions claim .

After a few hours on the phone with Apple Expert Support the other day and trying all posted solutions; IPv6, Firewall on/off and even opening TCP & UDP ports on my router that ATV used, I finally was transfered to a Product Specialist and FINALLY achieved a resolution to this long pestering issue. The solution was a simple change to the Wireless QoS configuration within my LinkSys WRT54G Router.

For those experiencing this issue using a LinkSys router follow these 4 steps (might be different if your not using model WRT54G) :
1> Under "Application and Gaming" tab, pick the "QoS" sub tab
2> Enable "QoS"
3> At the bottom of the screen "Wireless QoS" change "WWM Support" to "Enable".
4> "Save Settings" and once the LinkSys configuration saves re-start iTunes.

If your not using a LinkSys Router and having this problem test your MacBook, like I did by direct connecting to your network via an Ethernet cable (turn off your wireless Airport). If "Remote Speakers" work in iTunes then look into your Routers configuration (or contact your Router Manufactures support line) for a wireless "QoS" or WMM setting (Wi-Fi MultiMediaTM).

Thank you Greg and Gill at AppleCare for the assistance in fixing this long outstanding issue for me, and hopefully to others that have been experiencing it since either iTunes 8.0.0 or OS X 10.5.5 was released.....

I've just bought a second MacBook Pro (late 2008 version). Exactly the same setup as the first. No. 1 can stream music to ATV, my new MBP won't. -150000 error. I'm using a non-Apple wireless router.

IPv6: automatic
Firewall: set specific + allow iTunes
iTunes: sharing on

I've been reading pages of posts on this subject, but no luck. Any ideas?

I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple Experts today, and they were able to get as far as narrowing the problem down to my router, and instructing me to call Verizon for additional help. Apple support didn't suggest the QoS resolution, but I just tried it on my own on the advice in this forum. Sadly, turning on QoS doesn't seem to be the solution for me, and I am still getting the -15000 error (there are several options within the QoS menu that I don't understand, however).

Strangely, I was previously able to use AirTunes with my Apple TV for months with no problems, and the -15000 error is relatively new. It appears that either an Apple TV software update, or a firmware update on my router (not under my control, pushed through automatically by Verizon) are to blame.

I am using a Westell 327W modem/router gateway, which is apparently specifically designed for Verizon, and is therefore only supported by Verizon and not by Westell directly. Apple suggested perhaps rolling back the drivers on the device, but I'm not sure where or how to go about doing so, since even Westell's own site says "Call Verizon."
