Brochure Printing on 8.5x14 Paper

This should be a dead easy task. I want to print a 14 x 5 inch image on a 14 x 8.5 inch piece of paper (folds in half for a 5 x 7 brochure). I laid out the brochure in Pages using a custom page size 14 x 5 the paper orientation must be vertical (have to fit 8.5 x 14 paper into the printer). The Pages layout is horizontal, 14 inches across and 5 inches high. This is a camera ready layout, page 1 and 4 print on the same sheet, page 2 and 3 will follow. I refuse to redo the layout on its side, that would be ludicrous.

However, there does not appear to be a way to re-orient the image onto the paper with 5 inch dimension at the head. If I change the page orientation in the printer dialog, the Pages layout goes into a vertical format also, obviously destroying the layout.

The only way, seemingly, I can print at all is with the image running off the page as it prints across the short dimension of the paper.

So the question is how do I re-orient the image onto the paper to get the 14 inch length onto a 14 inch piece of paper?

I hope this doesn't sound too confusing.

You need to create the custom page with the long side up and short side across, just as it goes into the printer.

To layout the photo on its horizontal page go:

+Menu > File > Page setup > Orientation: > click on the 2nd button with the person lying sideways and arrow up > OK+

Now when you print, it will turn the page and feed the short side up into the printer.

It seems you have created a custom page which is wider than it is high, the printer is just following your instructions.

I described how to set up a custom page for the printer, which is different to the page you use in the page size which can be vertical or horizontal.

You set up and use a vertically oriented page in the printer set-up as nearly all printers have the paper fed vertically (short side across, long side vertical). To turn the page on its side for your layout, you use the *orientation button* as previously described. The page then appears on its side onscreen in Pages (or any OSX application) but prints turned vertically. This is the normally behavior for almost any printer.

I can't test for the USA sizes, as they are only used in the USA & Canada, but it certainly works for the A3 that we do use here.
