Can you disable GPRS and Edge and FORCE the iPhone to only use 3G?
I'm in the UK on O2. I have a perfectly decent 3G signal in my home, usually around 2 to 3 bars, sometimes dropping to 1. Not the fastest, but perfectly adequate for regular web browsing. This is my problem; my iPhone decides about every 5 minutes that this is not good enough and switches to the full strength, 5 bar GPRS (or occasionally Edge) signal. As a result web browsing becomes excruciatingly slow. Even a 1 bar 3G signal is miles faster than a full strength GPRS signal.
So this is my routine -
1. There i am browsing the web
2. iPhone suddenly decides i should be on GPRS
3. Browsing slows to a frustrating crawl
4. Go to settings and turn airplane mode on and off
5. Great! Back on 3G and web browsing as normal
6. A few minutes later iPhone decides i should be on GPRS
7. repeat ad-bloody-nauseum
It's driving me nuts.
I have tried putting in the wrong APN settings, as suggested on another thread, but I can't connect through 3G either when i've done this. I also can't disable it through my carrier as i do actually need GPRS when i visit my parent's home out in the country. So is there any way i can force the iPhone to use 3G only?
