MBP Crashes 5 minutes after being on VIMEO

Hi all,

I discovered vimeo.com a few days ago. However, if I use it for more than 5 minutes the macbook pro will crash and will force me to reboot OR it will reboot on its own.

Is it because vimeo is using flash? other people in searches of "vimeo" seem to be very happy with the service. Youtube on the other hand works just fine.

I've used both Safari and Firefox and with either there is no difference. The computer will inevitably crash 5 minutes later.

I am way far out from my nearest Genius bar so I don't know what to do. I am not running low on HD space, the computer had a new logic board last august from apple and I am running with 2GB of RAM.

Any advice would be helpful.

Hi solar;

How about some numbers on your comment about you are running low on disk space? Exactly how much free space do you still have?

Running low on free disk space can cause all kinds of wild & wonderful problems for you. I think that should be the first thing you fix if it is truly low.

Hi, I know that low in memory can cause wild and wonderful problems... however, the MBP has a total HD capacity of 80GB and I have about 40GB left. I do not think that 40GB to go is considered low in memory and that's what worries me the most.

Let me know if something else comes in mind. Till then no vimeo for me.

I am going to have to slow down as I am reading, I totally missed the little tiny word, 'not' on my first reading of your post. Sorry.

When you say forced to restart, can you provide more detail so that we know exactly what you mean by that?

Yes vimeo.com videos use Flash Player. Make sure you have the latest version. I had no problems with the web site.

I'm having a similar problem where flash video is played either on a website, or via perian. The computer just freezes whatever is on the screen and there is nothing I can do. It's starting to really **** me off quite frankly. I've had my MBP for two years now and this is the first time I've had this particular problem.

Alan,

By forced to restart I mean that the whole screen will turn dark, it will give me the message that I need to restart the computer in four languages and will force me to press the power button till the computer is shut. Like a Kernel Panic. Even if I do that, if I turn the computer on and go back to vimeo within 5 minutes the computer will crash again. Sometimes, even, it would restart on its own. Can Vimeo provoke a restart?

I did update the plug-in to the latest but for some reason I thought I had the latest one.
