Hi, I was wondering what I could do to solve my java preferences crash, when ever I open it, it just crashes, and asks me to relaunch when I reset and relaunch just does the same thing. Is there anything I can download from to reinstall this?

Edit: my java web start does the same thing. When I try to run java-related games, it works fine, so my java is working.
I don't know if this helps

At lot of people seem to have a similar issue judging from a search on this forum for "java x86-64".

Have a look at my post on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8015190&#8519269 for a workaround for this problem.

Try this... Go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and move these 2 files to your desktop.
    Then relaunch Java.

I tried setting aside the preference files as suggested, and more, restarted Mac OS X.

Still, Java Web Start crashes: <http://pastebin.ca/1275839>

I have restored the preferences to their original situation.

    Java Web Start crashes

I copied the application from a computer where Java Web Start does not crash.

    Now, on my computer:

    • Java Web Start no longer crashes

    • a *Java Web Start - System Configuration* dialogue advises:

The application has requested a version of the JRE (version 1.4+) that currently is not locally installed. Java Web Start is unable to automatically download and install the requested version. This JRE must be installed manually.

    (That'll be a separate issue.)
