mp3 downloads saving as .mp3.part

I am not sure if this is quite the appropriate section for this question- i apologize if there is a better section i missed.
Since yesterday, my mp3 downloads are saving with the extension .mp3.part and i have to go to the file and delete the .paart to get the mp3 to open. i visited a russian website yesterday and am wondering if that may have something to do with it? i may have clicked on some links and not known what i was clicking on bcz google translate couldnt translate everything.

What are you using to download the files? Safari doesn't append .part to a download.

safari hasnt worked for months on my computer so i have been using firefox with good results until now. (side note-i tried all the suggested fixes for safari and it still doesnt work.)

Firefox appends .part to downloading/unfinished downloads and removes it when finished. If it doesn't remove the extension when downloads finish, reinstall Firefox. To fix existing (fully downloaded, not unfinished) files, highlight the file, press Command+I and remove .part in the Name and Extension section.
