Stripped screw

I tried to upgrade my disk drive but the screw securing the hard drive stripped completely. Will The Apple store fix this for me and how long will it take them to do so?

You may need to pay though as you caused the problem.

Take the screwdriver with you that you used and show them that you could not undo it without striping the screw, you may be lucky and they will do the repair for free.

Don't lie though and say that it was like that when you got it, as clearly the HD could not have been installed like that at the factory, and they will know it. If you lie they will most likely either void the warranty as you have caused damage or at least charge you for the repair.

How do you expect them to remove the screw?
If is is stripped then it will need to be drilled out.
Drilling out such a small screw is very risky as it can easily damage the thread.
If the thread is damaged then more work would be required.

All this takes time and time costs money, which they should charge for as the damage was done by the owner of the computer.

Just give him the screw then and let him sort it out himself.

yeah, I suppose he could. Or he could get help at the Apple Store from one of the geniuses whose job is to help Mac owners.

Before you retort, yes I know he damaged the hardware himself and why the heck should they help him, right? Well, because that's one of the perks of owning a Mac. Because, in most cases, they'll do everything they can to help you out. Be it software issue, a hardware issue. Whether you screwed it up, or it was screwed up when you got it. Because they want to help. that's why.
