Paper Type options aren't available...

I have Mac OSX 10.5.5 and a laser jet printer.
When I try to print a document on a specific paper type (in this case cardstock), I cannot find the options to select the paper type I need. Before I updated OSX there used to be an option where I could select glossy paper, matte, cardstock, etc. it is no longer there and it's affecting my print quality. Anyone able to help me??

You may not be aware that with Mac OS X 10.5, the print dialog is minimized so that you only see the printer queue and the Presets menu. To see the entire print dialog, you need to click on the triangle next to the Printer menu. Then via this print dialog you have menus available to select more printer options.

If you are aware of this then sorry, but it has caught out a number of Leopard users, especially those that updated from a previous version of OS X.

So, if you still cannot see the paper type options with the print dialog expanded, then you may have a PPD/PDE compatibility problem. Check the printer vendor's web site in case there is a later version of driver needed for 10.5.

I'm doing a search for similar problem myself... the other day I printed from iphoto for the first time in a while and various options for photo on photo paper, plain paper, glossy, etc came up- more than used to. Now when I open a tiff or other picture file in preview I also get these expanded options... all is good. But when I open a pdf in preview I'm back to my old 3 options- standard, previously selected, and draft... none of the photo on plain etc. which is what I'm looking for... kind of mysterious.
